South Experimental Area

Starting from the laser front end, the pulse, without further amplification, is sent to a different wing of the ILIL lab where two distinct interaction chambers are present.

The first chamber is dedicated to laser-driven electron acceleration experiments using LWFA mechanism, especially for radiobiological applications. By means of an f / 10 OAP, the beam is focussed on gas-jet targets at an intensity of about 2 · 1018 W / cm2.

Depending on the required energy, different gas jet nozzle profiles are available.

The other interaction chamber named PAV-ONE is dedicated to solid laser-target interaction experiments; the intensity reachable is around 2·1019 W/cm2, thanks to an f/4.5 OAP.
